Preparation: What a Soft Lock Actually Means
A soft lock in Yunyun Syndrome is not a crash. The game keeps running. You can keep playing. But a specific ending or achievement is now permanently unreachable on that save file. There is no warning prompt. No “are you sure?” dialog. The game simply records an internal flag and moves on, and you will not discover the lock until you reach the point where the ending should trigger — and it does not.
This is by design. Yunyun Syndrome is a game about information control and digital consequences. Your choices persist. Your mistakes persist. The only escape hatch is loading an earlier save or starting fresh.
I learned this the hard way. Six save files burned before I mapped every soft lock condition. This guide is the catalog I wish I had on playthrough one.
My worst soft lock came on save file #4. I had DENPA at 85%, conspiracy influence at 60%, and all three diary entries read. Then I pushed DOKIDOKI to 999% on a whim to test the TOO CUWUTE achievement. The bad ending triggered, the achievement unlocked, and the true ending path collapsed. That save could never reach DONIDEMONARE. I had to start over from slot 5.
The Seven Soft Locks: Complete Catalog
Every soft lock condition in Yunyun Syndrome, ranked by how easily players trigger them accidentally:
| # | Soft Lock | Trigger | What It Blocks | How Common |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Stat Threshold | DOKIDOKI/HYPE/YUNYUN hits 999% | True ending on current save | Very common |
| 2 | Save Slot Exhaustion | All 60 slots filled | All future saves; triggers ERROR ending | Common |
| 3 | Diary Order | Diaries read out of sequence | DONIDEMONARE on current save | Common |
| 4 | Final Choice | Accepting yunyun’s offer | DONIDEMONARE on current save | Moderate |
| 5 | Premature Conspiracy | Conspiracy influence too high before DENPA 100% | Certain IF endings | Moderate |
| 6 | Daily Time Limit | Game time exceeds 23:59:59 | Triggers “Sleepy time now!” ending | Uncommon |
| 7 | Signal Rejection | DENPA Transmission with rejected signal | True ending variant | Rare |
Quick Prevention Reference
| Soft Lock | Prevention |
|---|---|
| Stat Threshold | Do not farm DOKIDOKI/HYPE/YUNYUN to 999% before true ending |
| Save Slot Exhaustion | Delete old saves regularly; keep slots 7-60 for individual ending saves |
| Diary Order | Read Diary 1 -> Diary 2 -> Diary 7 in strict sequence |
| Final Choice | Reject yunyun’s offer; save in two slots before the choice |
| Premature Conspiracy | Build DENPA to 100% before pushing conspiracy influence above 50% |
| Daily Time Limit | Do not play past 23:59:59 in-game time unless going for the ending |
| Signal Rejection | Ensure DENPA is at 100% before transmission; do not attempt at lower levels |
Save Slot Management: The 60-Slot Trap
Yunyun Syndrome gives you exactly 60 save slots. This number is not arbitrary — filling all 60 triggers the “ERROR. RESTART GAME.” ending, which is both a joke about parallel worlds and a genuine mechanical consequence. Once all slots are full, you cannot save. Period.
Why 60 Slots Is Both Too Many and Too Few
Too many because most players need 6-8 slots for a full completion run. Too few because the game gives you no warning as slots fill up, and the ERROR ending triggers the moment slot 60 is used.
My Save Slot Strategy
After burning through slots on my first four playthroughs, I developed this system:
Slot 1: PT1 - Foundation (Q CHANNEL + exploration)
Slot 2: PT2 - True Ending (DONIDEMONARE route)
Slot 3: PT3 - Conspiracy Farming Part 1
Slot 4: PT4 - Conspiracy Farming Part 2 + Action Required
Slot 5: PT5 - Stat Threshold Farming
Slot 6: PT6 - Cleanup + Hidden Endings
Slots 7-60: Individual IF ending saves (one per ending)
Rules for Slot Management
- Label every save immediately. The game lets you name save slots. Use a consistent naming convention: “PT[number] - [purpose]”.
- Delete aggressively. After you have extracted all content from a save, delete it. Do not hoard “just in case” saves.
- Keep 10 slots in reserve. Never use more than 50 slots. If you reach 50, stop and clean up.
- Do not save after every chart clear. Save after major milestones only: diary entry read, DENPA threshold crossed, ending triggered.
I filled 58 save slots across my first five playthroughs before realizing the ERROR ending was approaching. The game does not show a slot counter anywhere visible. I discovered the count by manually counting in the save menu. After that, I adopted the “keep 10 in reserve” rule and never had the problem again.
The endings guide has a more detailed breakdown of the multi-playthrough route and which slots to assign to each phase.
Diary Order Lock: The Silent Killer
This is the soft lock that catches the most players because the game gives you zero indication that diary reading order matters. You find diary entries scattered across Qtie’s desktop. You read them in whatever order you find them. And somewhere in the DONIDEMONARE trigger logic, the game checks whether you read them in the correct sequence.
The Correct Order
| Step | Diary | Password | When It Unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Diary 1 | No password (auto-unlocks at 50% DENPA) | First diary available |
| 2 | Diary 2 | ”Kurumi Kurusu” | Available after Diary 1 is read |
| 3 | Diary 7 | ”0606” (drag yunyun to reveal) | Available after Diary 2 is read |
| 4 | diary.zip | ”rim de lacent” | Available after all three diaries are read |
What Happens If You Read Them Out of Order
The game sets an internal flag tracking your diary reading sequence. If Diary 7 is read before Diary 2, the flag is set to “corrupted sequence.” When you later reach the DENPA TRANSMISSION step, the DONIDEMONARE trigger condition fails silently. You can still transmit, you can still fight Patootie, but the final choice will not produce the true ending.
There is no error message. No “diary sequence corrupted” warning. The ending simply does not trigger.
Prevention
- Save immediately before reading each diary entry
- Read them in strict numerical order: 1 -> 2 -> 7
- If you are unsure whether you read them correctly, load the save from before the first diary
The diary.zip password is “rim de lacent” — the title of yunyun’s character song. This is confirmed. The Diary 7 password “0606” requires dragging yunyun around the screen. The Diary 2 password “Kurumi Kurusu” is Qtie’s real name, revealed through early conspiracy trends. All three passwords are deliberate references, not random strings. The true ending guide covers the narrative significance of each diary.
Stat Threshold Locks: Why 999% Is a One-Way Door
DOKIDOKI, HYPE, and YUNYUN all cap at 999%. Reaching that threshold triggers a bad ending and permanently blocks the true ending on that save. There is no way to decrease a stat below its current value except through Miss penalties, and Miss penalties are too small to reverse a 999% threshold.
The Three Stat Locks
| Stat | 999% Ending | Achievement | Blocks True Ending? |
|---|---|---|---|
| DOKIDOKI | TOO KAWAII! | Yes | Yes, permanently |
| HYPE | It’s pure chaos. | Yes | Yes, permanently |
| YUNYUN | Everything will be yunified. | Yes | Yes, permanently |
Why Players Trigger This Accidentally
The most common scenario: a player is exploring, hitting notes perfectly, and does not realize DOKIDOKI is climbing. On NORMAL difficulty, each perfect hit adds +5%. A 100-note chart with Full Combo adds +500%. Two Full Combos = 1000%, which exceeds 999%.
The second most common scenario: a player reads about the TOO CUWUTE achievement online, decides to farm DOKIDOKI on their main save, and does not realize it blocks the true ending until it is too late.
Prevention
- Track your DOKIDOKI/HYPE/YUNYUN values in the stat panel
- Do not farm any stat above 500% on a save file intended for the true ending
- The DOKIDOKI 999% route should only be executed on a dedicated cleanup save
- Save before every chart clear during farming runs so you can reload if you overshoot
The stat threshold locks are the reason the multi-playthrough route exists. The game is designed so that true ending completion and stat farming cannot coexist on the same save. Accept this. Plan your playthroughs accordingly.
The Final Choice Lock: Accept vs. Reject
After defeating Patootie, yunyun offers to delete herself from the drive. This is the final narrative fork.
The Lock Condition
- Reject = DONIDEMONARE triggers (true ending)
- Accept = alternate ending triggers (not the true ending)
If you accept, the DONIDEMONARE achievement does not unlock, and the true ending is blocked on that save. The game does not let you go back and change the choice — you would need to reload a save from before the Patootie fight.
Prevention
- Save in two separate slots before the Patootie fight begins
- Reject yunyun’s offer for the true ending
- If you want the accept ending too, load the second save and accept
This lock is the easiest to avoid because it is a single binary choice at the end of a clear sequence. The only way to mess it up is not knowing which option leads to the true ending. Now you know: reject.
Important Notes
Soft locks are permanent per save file. There is no reset button, no New Game+ carry-over that bypasses them, no secret menu to clear flags. The only recovery is loading an earlier save or starting a new playthrough.
Multiple soft locks can stack. If you read diaries out of order AND push DOKIDOKI to 999%, you have two independent locks on the same save. Neither can be undone.
The Engage Link ending requires the true ending save. After DONIDEMONARE, you must complete all remaining conspiracies on the same save to unlock Engage Link. If your true ending save is soft locked from other conditions, Engage Link may also be blocked.
The “Game Reset” ending is a deliberate soft lock. Filling all 60 save slots triggers this ending. It is both an achievement and a meta-commentary on save management. You need to soft lock yourself to get it.
Time-based soft locks are avoidable. The “Sleepy time now!” ending triggers when in-game time exceeds 23:59:59. This only happens if you deliberately play past the daily limit. Normal play sessions do not reach this threshold.
The Safe Playthrough Template
Follow this template to avoid every soft lock while achieving 100% completion:
Playthrough 1: Foundation (Save Slot 1)
| Step | Action | Soft Lock Risk |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Complete Q CHANNEL prologue | None |
| 2 | Explore desktop, drink energy drink | None |
| 3 | Trigger 1-2 IF endings casually | Low |
| 4 | Do NOT read any diaries yet | Avoid diary order lock |
| 5 | Do NOT push any stat above 300% | Avoid stat threshold lock |
| 6 | Save at major milestones | Keep slots in reserve |
Playthrough 2: True Ending (Save Slot 2)
| Step | Action | Soft Lock Risk |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Build DENPA to 100% | Low (DENPA is safe to farm) |
| 2 | Read Diary 1 -> 2 -> 7 in order | Critical: follow exact sequence |
| 3 | Open diary.zip (password: “rim de lacent”) | None after correct diary order |
| 4 | Trigger DENPA TRANSMISSION | None at 100% DENPA |
| 5 | Build conspiracy to 70%+ | Avoid pushing before DENPA 100% |
| 6 | Defeat Patootie | None |
| 7 | Reject yunyun’s offer | Critical: reject, do not accept |
| 8 | Complete remaining conspiracies for Engage Link | None |
Playthroughs 3-6: Cleanup (Save Slots 3-6)
| Playthrough | Purpose | Soft Lock Risk |
|---|---|---|
| PT3 | Conspiracy farming (IF endings) | Low |
| PT4 | Action-required endings | Low |
| PT5 | Stat threshold farming (999% each) | Intentional — these saves are disposable |
| PT6 | Hidden/joke endings + cleanup | Low |
This template uses 6 save slots for the main playthroughs and reserves 54 slots for individual ending saves. After completing all 6 playthroughs, I had 47 slots remaining. The template is conservative — you could compress it to 4 playthroughs if you are more aggressive about overwriting saves.
Final Take
Yunyun Syndrome has seven soft lock conditions. Five of them are easy to trigger accidentally. Zero of them come with a warning.
The prevention rules are simple:
- Never push DOKIDOKI/HYPE/YUNYUN to 999% on a true ending save.
- Read diaries in order: 1 -> 2 -> 7.
- Reject yunyun’s offer at the final choice.
- Manage your 60 save slots like they are finite resources (because they are).
- Build DENPA to 100% before pushing conspiracy influence above 50%.
Follow these five rules and you will not soft lock. Break any of them and you will not know until the ending you wanted does not trigger.
The game’s design philosophy is clear: consequences are permanent, information is hidden, and the only safety net is your own save management. It is frustrating. It is also the point. Yunyun Syndrome is a game about living with the consequences of digital actions. The soft locks are not bugs — they are the thesis statement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What causes soft locks in Yunyun Syndrome?
Seven conditions can soft lock your save: pushing DOKIDOKI/HYPE/YUNYUN to 999%, filling all 60 save slots, reading diary entries out of order, accepting yunyun's offer at the final choice, pushing conspiracy influence too early, triggering stat bad endings before the true ending, and exceeding the daily time limit.
Can I undo a soft lock in Yunyun Syndrome?
No. Soft locks in Yunyun Syndrome are permanent for that save file. You cannot reset stats, un-read diary entries, or recover filled save slots. The only fix is loading an earlier save or starting a new playthrough.
How many save slots does Yunyun Syndrome have?
The game has exactly 60 save slots. This is an intentional design choice -- filling all 60 triggers the 'ERROR. RESTART GAME.' ending. Manage slots actively by deleting old saves and labeling new ones clearly.
