Revelations DLC — Chain Spear campaign
A roughly 12-hour campaign structured around a Metroidvania-style hub. The new Chain Spear weapon has 4 attack modes, unlocks automatically in Chapter 2, and needs a manual keybind before it's usable.
FULL ANALYSIS →Update 4 ships with Revelations — and drops Denuvo
Update 4 landed the same day as the expansion: Ripatorium 3.0 with shorter base-game passcodes, save/load for personal encounter presets, a continuous spawn mode, configurable health, ammo and Berserk pickups. The Steam build also lost its Denuvo protection in this update.
FULL ANALYSIS →Chain Spear "??" inputs fixed — by wiping every binding
The fix for the Chain Spear showing "??" instead of its button prompts reset ALL player bindings to default, so anything you customised needs rebinding. It also cleared the red-wall progression blocks that could swallow you after dying in Hell's Core and Osseus, plus the worst crashes.
FULL ANALYSIS →Update 4 Hotfix 2 — the balance pass
Skullcrusher Ravager now needs more damage to trigger ammo and health drops (a bigger jump against Vagary enemies and Xal'Goroth the Imprisoned), the Pain Elemental Tormentor's Chain Spear Meathook Orbit upgrade deals less damage to Heavy, Superheavy and Henchman demons, and stacking Tormentor back-to-back now runs into diminishing returns on orbit time and angle.
FULL ANALYSIS →Base game cut to $50, Deluxe to $70
Bethesda made the reduction permanent across all platforms: $70 down to $50 for the base game, $100 down to $70 for Deluxe. If you have Xbox Game Pass you can buy in at $40 and $55 respectively.
FULL ANALYSIS →Slaughter Mode announced for November
Game director Hugo Martin confirmed it on Slayers Club Live: a free, endless single-player mode built on escalating demon waves across multiple arenas, paying out cosmetic rewards and tracking personal bests by round and score. Announced two months after layoffs hit id Software.
FULL ANALYSIS →DOOM: The Dark Ages FAQ
DOOM: The Dark Ages is a first-person shooter developed by id Software, set in a dark medieval-inspired Hell. Players take on the role of the Slayer, wielding the Shield Saw and later the Chain Spear, battling demons across frozen landscapes and ancient ruins. The game features fast-paced combat, weapon upgrades through Hollow Shrines, and a deep endgame with Master Arenas and Ripatorium wave modes.
The Chain Spear is the new primary weapon in the Revelations DLC, replacing the Shield Saw after it's broken by the Henchman. It functions as a melee weapon, projectile throw, grappling hook (Meat Hook), and bullet reflector. Key abilities include Meat Hook for mobility, Orbit for aerial circling, Charged Throw for double damage, and Stab for quick kills. It has 5 upgrade branches: Base, Meat Hook, Throw, Slam, and Slash.
Go to Settings > Inputs and toggle the Slayer Controller Preset from Default to Southpaw and back. This forces the game to reassign all default bindings. After Update 4, you can also use Reset to Default in the same menu. This bug affects players who had existing base game saves before the DLC launched.
The Warlock is a caster enemy introduced in Revelations that shields nearby demons, making them immune to damage. It teleports when pressured and has a 1.5-second recovery window after each teleport. The Warlock can be killed with just 2 Chain Spear Stabs, but ignoring it turns every demon in the room into a bullet sponge. Always prioritize killing Warlocks first.
After completing the campaign, the Master Key endgame unlocks, transforming all missions into replay spaces with locked areas, Blood Iron upgrades, Classic Encounters, Classic Levels, Slayer Trials, and Ritual of Power challenges. Collecting Astral Key fragments unlocks the Uber Boss, which rewards the Master Arena Key. Clearing all Master Arenas unlocks Ripatorium 3.0.
