Mortal Shell II Hidden Weapons and Invisible-Wall Easter Eggs

Mortal Shell II is an interconnected open world that rewards poking at walls that look solid. The game gives you no robust pinning or note system, so secrets are easy to miss, and several of the best weapons are deliberately locked behind puzzles or boss chains. Below is the confirmed list of hidden weapons, the illusory walls worth breaking, and the easter-egg loops that pay out.

Before You Go Looking for Walls That Are Not Walls

  • Expect no map hand-holding. Zone markers are vague and there is no note or pin system, so exploration is on you. [Unverified] The absence of a robust pinning tool is inferred from guide wording that markers show only a general area.
  • Bring your sidearm. Several puzzles (bell bridges, distant switches) need a ranged tool to trigger.
  • Do not skip dungeons. Weapons are not time-limited, but the secret routes are easy to bypass on a straight line to the boss.
  • Watch for “empty” doorways. Illusion puzzles often look like a dead end until you step through the frame.

Clockwork Scythe, Obsidian Hammer, and the Puzzle-Gated Pair

The eight primary weapons break down into free pickups, boss drops, and two puzzle-gated cases. The headline hidden ones:

Clockwork Scythe — Sariel’s Parting Gift

Location: Chamber of Becoming, southeastern Ruins of Mammon. Action: Beat Sariel above ground near Silent Steps Beacon, follow him in, and destroy the four stone tablets around the arena before the final kill or he keeps resurrecting. Outcome: Loot his body for the Shell and the Clockwork Scythe in one trip. The spinning-blade moveset is one of the widest AoE kits in the game.

Obsidian Hammer — Prophet at the Bottom of the Mines

Location: Obsidianite Mines, west of the Mammon outskirts. Action: Drop through the quarry pool or enter via the Gate of Mammon, descend through the mine floors to the lowest arena, and kill the Prophet of Profane Infinities. Outcome: The hammer drops. Its blunt profile is excellent against shielded and large enemies.

Axatana and Black Needle — The Two Real Puzzle Locks

Location: Forgotten Tower (Axatana) and Sester’s Bastion (Black Needle). Action: Axatana needs the tower jump gates and a floor switch to raise the metal gate into the weapon room. Black Needle needs you to shoot the dungeon bells with your sidearm to materialize the bell bridge, then clear the Twin Sesters and the Stray Sesters. Outcome: Both are confirmed primary weapons; neither is a loose pickup, which is exactly why players miss them.

Illusory Walls and the Chalice That Teleports You

Mortal Shell II loves a fake wall. Three are confirmed.

Hall of Illusions — Step Through the Empty Doorway

Location: Beacon by the corrupted gate east of Mushroom Village. Action: Revive the Beacon, enter, fight to the lone doorway, step through the frame (your back to the wall) to spawn a pylon, pass the second doorway, then strike the wall opposite the entrance in the sealed room to break the illusion. Look up to trigger Vrannic. Outcome: Killing Vrannic drops the Volatile Fragment Tarstone and opens the road to the Glutted Mire. The “walk backwards through the hidden wall” trick also appears in the Shrine of Trials (“gaze upon your king, back and back you shall pass through”).

Shrine of Trials — Push Pillars, Walk Backwards

Location: Chapel near Mushroom Village (needs Chapel Key). Action: Read the statue clue, walk backwards through the hidden wall, then attack the movable pillars onto the pressure plates to open each passage. Outcome: The Armored Knight at the end drops the Axe & Dagger.

Marrow Keep — The Hidden Wall to the Strange Chalice

Location: Gravestone area of Marrow Keep. Action: A hidden wall leads to a small room with a chained chalice. Interacting pushes you away and damages you. Grab the Slayer Seal from the nearby throne (do not equip it if you want achievements), return, and interact again. Outcome: You are teleported to the Desolate Keep dungeon, a larger late-game area with chests, Gold, and loot coffins.

Secret Rewards Behind the Fake Stone

Hall of IllusionsVolatile Fragment Tarstone + Glutted Mire gateway
Shrine of TrialsAxe & Dagger
Strange Chalice -> Desolate KeepChests, Gold, loot coffins

The throughline: if a wall looks like nothing, hit it or walk through it. The game’s best stuff is almost always one fake wall away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Mortal Shell II weapons are hidden behind puzzles?

Axatana (Forgotten Tower jump-gate route) and Black Needle (Sester's Bastion bell-platform puzzle) are the two primary weapons gated behind traversal puzzles rather than a simple pickup.

Where is the Clockwork Scythe?

Defeat Sariel, the Endless, in the Chamber of Becoming after breaking the four stones; it drops alongside his Shell.

Where is the Obsidian Hammer?

Defeat the Prophet of Profane Infinities at the bottom of the Obsidianite Mines in the Ruins of Mammon.

Are there invisible walls in Mortal Shell II?

Yes. The Hall of Illusions and Shrine of Trials use illusory walls you walk or strike through, and Marrow Keep has a hidden wall leading to a chalice room.

Is anything missable if I skip dungeons?

Weapons are not time-limited and can be collected later, but the Strange Chalice to Desolate Keep secret is easy to walk straight past in Marrow Keep.
