Crimson Desert Skill Observation Unlock List: All Boss Learnable Skills Quick Reference
The verified observation list: which named enemies and bosses teach Kliff, Damiane and Oongka free skills, what each unlock costs if you skip it, and which entries in the old tables were never real.
A meaningful share of the Crimson Desert skill tree can be filled without spending a single Abyss Artifact, and the free half is the half most guides get wrong. I rebuilt this page from the Game8 skill database because the version I published in March listed enemies that do not exist in it — no Steward, no Gunner Elite, no Stone Golem, no Wolf Alpha — and the traffic those entries pulled was wasted on players searching a world that never had them.
What follows is only what the database supports, with the teacher named or flagged as unnamed.

How Observation Learning Actually Works
Nodes in the skill tree take one of three unlock forms, and the database states them differently enough that the distinction is worth knowing before you plan a route:
- Observe only. The move has one path: watch someone perform it. Pump Kick on Kliff is the clean example — the entry reads “Observe Matthias boss fight”.
- Artifact or observe. Two paths to the same node, and one of them is free. Evasive Roll is “1 Artifact/Observe Kailok (Kliff) / Default (Others)”.
- Raise a prerequisite level or observe. Here observation is a shortcut around a leveling requirement rather than a currency saving. Swift Stab is “Raise Stab Lv.2 or Observe Reed Devil”.
There is no published observation count, so treat any guide that tells you to watch a move three to five times as guessing. The practical rule is the same one that works in a fighting game: stay alive long enough that the enemy cycles the animation, and check the node afterwards.
Two structural facts make this worth more than a rounding error in your artifact budget:
- Observation unlocks are permanent. They are exempt from the reset — the respec refunds Artifacts spent on purchased skills and explicitly leaves observed skills in place. You cannot accidentally lose them, and you cannot trade them back.
- Nothing here is limited to bosses. Despite what the title of this page promises, most confirmed teachers are ordinary enemies, NPCs and set-piece figures. The Matthias fight is the exception, not the pattern.
Kliff: The Named Observation Sources
Kliff carries almost every documented observation source in the game, because his starter kit is thinner than the other two protagonists’.
| Skill | Tree | Database unlock condition | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pump Kick | Unarmed | Observe Matthias boss fight | Two-footed kick that sends the enemy flying |
| Evasive Roll | Movement | 1 Artifact or observe Kailok | Roll away immediately after being hit |
| Swift Stab | Melee (Stab) | Raise Stab Lv.2 or observe Reed Devil | Follow-up after a successful charged Stab |
| Aerial Roll | Flight | 1 Artifact or observe Crowcaller (Chapter 5) | High-speed dash during Flight, consuming Stamina on the spot |
| Clothesline | Grappling | Observe Black Bears (Chapter 6) | While sprinting, hook an enemy and slam them down |
| Multishot | Ranged | 1 Artifact or observe Fort Commander (Hernand) | Ten arrows in a wide spread while aiming |
| Explosive Evasive Shot | Ranged | Raise Evasive Shot Lv.3 or observe Fort Commander | Fire into the ground to launch yourself skyward |
| Charged Shot | Ranged | 1 Artifact or observe a lioncrest archer | Charged shot for extra power |
| Focused Force Palm | Focus | Observe a shadowy figure at a Chapter 4 roadblock | Penetrating Force Palm released inside Focus |
| Forward Slash | Melee | Default or observe Hernand Castle soldiers | Stepping power slash |
| Counter | Combat Basics | Raise Keen Senses Lv.3 or observe in Hernand | Attack just before the hit to interrupt |
| Double Jump | Movement | 1 Artifact or observe the jumping Shai children in Pororin Forest | Extra mid-air jump |
| Nature’s Echo | Nature | Keen Senses Lv.3 + Forward Slash Lv.3, 1 Artifact or observe | An illusion that copies your heavy attacks |
| Nature’s Snare | Nature | Keen Senses Lv.3 + Focus Lv.2, 1 Artifact or observe | Wind barrier that blocks projectiles while focused |
| Force Palm | Spirit | Chapter 1 quest plus observing an NPC | Palm strike that also reduces the target’s defense |
| Nature’s Grasp | Nature | Chapter 2 quest plus observing an NPC | Lift and move heavy objects |
Three of those are the ones I would chase first, and the reason is arithmetic rather than preference. Aerial Roll is the only confirmed way to get a Flight-time dash without burning an Artifact, and Flight drains roughly 25 Stamina per second, so the dash is the difference between crossing a canyon and gliding into the water. Double Jump costs one Artifact if you skip the Pororin Forest observation, which is a free node standing in the opening region. Pump Kick has no Artifact path at all — miss the Matthias fight and the skill is simply not available to Kliff.
Damiane and Oongka: Fewer Gates Than You Expect
Both of them start with the mobility and grappling tools that Kliff has to buy or observe, which is why their observation lists are short.
| Skill | Character | Database unlock condition | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tornado Kick | Damiane | 1 Artifact or observe a trainee | Spinning kick that launches the enemy |
| Spinning Scissors Throw | Damiane | 1 Artifact or observe the move | Running leg-wrap throw |
| Skewer | Damiane | Raise Piercing Light Lv.2 or observe | Sprint with the enemy stuck on the blade |
| Sword Flurry Proficiency | Damiane | Raise Sword Flurry Lv.2 or observe | Dodge then slash multiple times |
| Divine Power Proficiency | Damiane | Raise Divine Power Lv.2 or observe | Repeatable Divine Power |
| Celestial Vitality Proficiency | Damiane | Raise Celestial Vitality Lv.2 or observe | Repeatable Celestial Vitality |
| Shatter | Damiane | Raise Holy Explosion Lv.2 or observe | Plunging greatsword with a follow-up explosion |
| Rampage Proficiency | Oongka | Raise Rampage Lv.2 or observe | Downward strike into a finishing attack |
| Explosive Leap | Oongka | Focus + Marksmanship Lv.3, 1 Artifact or observe | Jump to a targeted point inside Focus and land with force |
Default-not-learned is the more useful fact for these two. Grappling, Lariat, Low Dropkick, Scatter Shot, Rage, Quick Grab, Dropkick and Vault are Oongka’s out of the box; Double Jump, Evasive Shot and Focus are Damiane’s. If you play Oongka, the observation grind is mostly a Kliff problem.
The Unnamed Observations
A long tail of nodes reads “or Observe skill” with no teacher named in the database entry: Turning Slash Expertise, Barrage, Repel, Heavy Strike, Spinning Slash Proficiency, Forward Slash Proficiency, Blinding Flash Finisher, Unarmed Combat Proficiency, Meteor Kick, Lariat Follow-up, Focused Repulsion, Evasive Shot Proficiency routes, Tiger’s Fury Expertise, Roundhouse Kick Proficiency and Iron Fists Proficiency.
[Unverified — I could not find a documented source enemy for these. Do not build a route around them; take the Artifact path or the prerequisite level instead.]
This is where the invented tables in the old version of this page did their damage: an unnamed observation is not a puzzle to solve, it is a gap in the data, and inventing a teacher for it sends readers to a location that has nothing there.
A Route Ordered by Chapter
Sequenced against confirmed story gates rather than a fictional difficulty curve:
- Chapter 1 — Force Palm and Axiom Force arrive from quests. Nothing to observe yet; spend nothing.
- Chapter 2 — Focus and Nature’s Grasp from quests. Pororin Forest is the Double Jump observation; do it before you decide Kliff’s traversal feels slow.
- Chapter 3 — Hernand Castle soldiers teach Forward Slash and the Spinning Slash and Counter branches. This is the densest early region for Kliff’s free nodes.
- Chapter 4 — the shadowy figure at the roadblock for Focused Force Palm. A Chapter 4 gate that no earlier route can touch.
- Chapter 5 — the Crowcaller for Aerial Roll.
- Chapter 6 — Black Bears for Clothesline, and the Matthias fight for Pump Kick. Both are the reason not to rush this chapter on a fresh character.
- Whenever you meet them — Fort Commander in Hernand (Multishot, Explosive Evasive Shot), Reed Devil (Swift Stab), Kailok (Evasive Roll), a lioncrest archer (Charged Shot), a trainee (Tornado Kick).
What the Old Version of This Page Got Wrong
Five specific corrections, kept here because the wrong search terms still route people here:
- Quick Reload is not a documented skill in the database I can read. The old Damiane table built an entire route around a Gunner Elite enemy that does not appear either.
- Mountain Breaker does not exist. No entry by that name, and no Stone Golem teaching it.
- Keen Senses is a skill, not a stat. It sits in Combat Basics, is default on all three characters, and its levels gate Dodge, Counter, Nature’s Snare and Nature’s Echo — which makes leveling it an unlock mechanism, not a damage investment.
- “Spinning Scissors” is Spinning Scissors Throw, and “Drop Kick” is Dropkick. Trivial, except that searching the wrong spelling is how readers conclude a skill is missing.
- There is no Witch NPC to visit for a respec. Resetting costs one Faded Abyss Artifact and a held button in the skill menu.
The Enhanced 2.0 upgrade (2.00.00, Aug 25, 2026) left the observation mechanic untouched and made Artifact mistakes cheaper rather than free: Abyss Link banks equivalent progress on the other characters when any of them learns a skill with an Artifact, and resets refund the materials in full with progress carrying into New Game+. Farming observations is still the correct discipline — it is free progress and it is permanent — but the old framing that a wrong purchase was a disaster was overstated. Full mechanics: Enhanced skills and Abyss Link guide.
Final Take
- Kliff is the observation character; Damiane and Oongka start with most of what he has to learn.
- Nine confirmed teachers cover the high-value nodes: Matthias, Kailok, Reed Devil, Crowcaller, Black Bears, Fort Commander, lioncrest archer, the Ch4 shadowy figure, the Pororin Forest Shai children.
- Pump Kick has no Artifact path. It is the one truly missable-feeling entry on the list, and it is chapter-gated rather than kill-gated.
- Observed skills survive respec. Purchased ones refund to one Faded Abyss Artifact.
- Roughly fifteen nodes say “or observe” without naming anyone. Ignore them rather than hunting.
For the stat side of the same budget, the early stamina and Abyss Artifact guide now documents the real caps (Stamina 14/12, Health 18, Spirit 12), and where Abyss Gear actually comes from covers the socket components that Artifacts pay for.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I learn skills by observation in Crimson Desert?
See the move performed in the world — the Game8 skill database words these conditions as 'Observe' plus the specific enemy, boss or NPC that uses it. There is no published observation count, no parry requirement and no Artifact cost. When a node accepts both routes, observation is the free one.
Which Crimson Desert skills can be learned through observation?
Confirmed named sources include Pump Kick from the Matthias boss fight, Evasive Roll from Kailok, Swift Stab from a Reed Devil, Aerial Roll from the Crowcaller in Chapter 5, Clothesline from Black Bears in Chapter 6, Multishot and Explosive Evasive Shot from the Fort Commander in Hernand, Charged Shot from a lioncrest archer, Focused Force Palm from a shadowy figure at a Chapter 4 roadblock, and Double Jump from the jumping Shai children in Pororin Forest.
Does observing a skill require killing the enemy or surviving the fight?
Neither requirement is documented. The unlock condition is seeing the move performed, so a fight where you stay alive long enough to see the animation cycle is what matters. Do not plan around a specific hit count — none is published.
Can I respec if I accidentally buy an observable skill?
Yes, and no NPC is involved. Resetting skills costs one Faded Abyss Artifact and refunds the Artifacts spent on them, triggered by holding F on keyboard, X on Xbox or Square on PlayStation in the skill menu. Skills learned by observation cannot be reset — they stay unlocked permanently.
Are the eight new Enhanced 2.0 skills observation-learnable?
No. The 2.00.00 additions unlock at main-story progress nodes, so no enemy teaches them and no observation route will pick them up.
