Crimson Desert Cat Dog Interaction Locations: Daily +25 Trust Farming Spots

Petting is capped at +5 x5 per day and feeding at three meals, not five. Here are the verified trust numbers, the 30-pet roster cap, and the one-day dog route to 100 trust.

Pet interaction showing cat and dog trust system in Crimson Desert

Pets in Crimson Desert are effectively a hidden mechanic: nothing in the tutorial points at them. You reach 100 Trust with one individual animal through petting (+5, capped at 5 per in-game day = +25) and feeding (capped at 3 meals per in-game day, 10-35 Trust each depending on the food), then hold the interaction button and select Take in. The roster cap is 30 pets, with one summoned at a time. That feeding cap is the number most launch-week guides got wrong - it is three meals, not five, and it changes the one-day math below.

Trust System Overview

Every animal you meet starts at 0 Trust, tracked per individual animal, and persists between visits. Two actions move the meter, both gated by the in-game day:

ActionTrust Per UseDaily LimitMax Daily Trust
Petting (dog or cat)+55 per animal+25
Feeding - standard food+103 meals per animal+30
Feeding - favorite / higher-grade food+20 to +35 (see note)3 meals per animal+60 to +105

On the feeding number, sources genuinely disagree and you should know it. PC Gamer’s guide (Sean Martin, updated Mar 26, 2026) measured +10 from tough meat and +20 from fine meat on the first feed. The community pet database and a GameSpot-syndicated guide both put favorite food at +35 per feed, with a per-breed favorite list. What all three agree on: petting is +5 five times a day, feeding is three times a day, and food quality changes the payout. I run the conservative +20 figure for planning and treat +35 as the reported ceiling - which is the difference between clearing 100 Trust in one in-game day and needing a second morning.

Daily counters reset at midnight game time, not real time, and the game gives you a time-skip, so you are never actually waiting on a clock.

Petting Rules For Dogs And Cats

The input differs by species, which trips up everyone who only ever pets dogs:

  • Dogs - walk up and hold the interaction prompt. They come to you, they eat off the ground without ceremony, and they are the low-friction taming target.
  • Cats - you have to use the grab prompt to lift them into your arms first, then press pet while holding them. Cats also bolt more readily than dogs, so expect a short chase.
  • At 100 Trust, put the cat back down before holding the interaction button for the Take in option.

Feeding Rules And The Drop-Food Trick

There is no “Feed” action on the animal. You open your inventory and discard the food on the ground near it; the animal walks over and eats. Two consequences people learn the hard way:

  1. Anything nearby can take it first. Drop food in Hernand’s streets or in a cat-dense village and an NPC or a different animal will snaffle the meal before your target reaches it. Isolate the animal you are farming.
  2. Food quality is what you are paying for. The Hernand Grocer and the butchery just south of the inn carry the meat line for both species; the fishmonger in Hernand covers fish and squid for cats. Dogs will eat broadly; cats are fussier.

Practical route: buy a stack of the best meat you can afford in one Hernand trip and farm one animal at a time instead of spreading three meals across five pets.

Where To Find Pets

What is documented versus what I could not confirm, stated plainly:

AnimalLocationSource Confidence

Dogs, generalHernand streets, the Constabulary area, near the reward board, by the guard stationConfirmed (PC Gamer, community DB)
Cats, highest densityPororin VillageCommunity DB, consistent with GameSpot-syndicated guide
Dogs and catsAround Demeniss settlements and port areaCommunity DB
Any animalRoaming spawns are not guaranteed at a fixed coordinate - save and reload, or fast-travel out and backCommunity-reported behavior

A correction on this page’s earlier version: my March spawn tables listed pet coordinates at places including Port Karma, Arboria Craftshop and Hills of No Return. I re-checked PC Gamer’s guide, the community pet database and two translated guides on Oct 9, 2026, and none of them support those location names as pet spawns. They were guesses dressed up as data, and they are gone.

One-Day Dog Route

Dogs are the ones you can finish inside a single in-game day:

  1. Pick one dog and stay with it (Trust is per animal ID).
  2. Pet 5 times: +25.
  3. Feed 3 meals at the high end: +60 at PC Gamer’s +20, or +105 if the +35 favorite figure holds.
  4. Total: 85 or 130. At 130 you Take in immediately. At 85 you need the reset trick.

The reset trick, and it is the real speedrun lever: start the session around 22:00 in-game. Burn the pet cap and the three meals, rest or time-skip past midnight, and both counters come back while you are still standing next to the same animal. Two rounds in the same sitting clears any dog.

Community tables also list two shortcuts I cannot verify first-hand but which multiple sources repeat: bones as a dog food worth +25 per feed, and any dog tamed instantly if you already have the right favorite food stacked. Treat those as reported, not confirmed.

Cats Take Two Or Three Days

Cats pay roughly +10 per meal across fish, bird meat and milk, so a cat’s ceiling is +25 petting +30 feeding = +55 per in-game day - two days minimum, three with travel overhead. Pororin Village is still the best place to grind it because you can queue several cats in one visit, and the community DB reports that some Pororin cats cannot be fed at all (petting only), which makes the 22:00-then-midnight double session the only route for those.

If a cat ignores dropped food, pick it up and pet it once - reported to get them to come eat.

Pet Roster Rules

  • Registered through Inventory > Pets tab, where you summon and unsummon.
  • 30 pets maximum, 1 active at any moment.
  • Unsummoned pets idle at the Greymane Camp after Chapter 3, spread across dedicated spots rather than piled at one point.
  • Untying a pet removes it permanently from the roster. Read that twice before pressing it on the cat you spent three days on.
  • The pet challenge counts visually distinct variants, not breeds - two brown Jindos count once, a white and a brown Jindo count twice. Community tables tie a 30-unique-pet Life Challenge to the Natural Collector trophy, with the tracking artifact on the road east of Delesyia South Gate and retroactive credit once you pick it up. [Unverified - I did not test the Life Challenge counter myself]

What Pets Do In Combat

Pets do no combat. They never attack and never generate aggro. The value is looting:

  • Dogs auto-pick up items from enemy corpses while summoned.
  • There is no loot filter. They take everything they can reach, including ore near nodes and items off open shelves. Your inventory fills faster than you expect - the inventory and backpack expansion guide is worth reading before you commit to a dog as your active companion, and community tables describe a separate pet stash you can empty from the Pets tab.
  • Pets can be hit. If one gets clipped mid-fight it struggles to keep up; the reported fix is to clear the area and heal it with Healing Force Palm.
  • They vanish when you mount, so they never slow your travel, and they cannot be summoned inside the Abyss region.

Pet Armor And Cosmetics

Cosmetic only - no stat bonuses, no combat effect. Slots are Helm, Outfit and a third Accessory slot. Sellers:

  • Milou’s pet tailor in northern Pororin Village, gated behind the mission chain that lets you enter the village without being darted by the forest guardians (PC Gamer describes the same gate for the Florindale-area tailor). Stock expands as you raise Trust with her through gifts.
  • A second tailor shop southeast of Demeniss, similar but smaller selection; Demeniss guards can be hostile early.
  • Standard cosmetics cost 240 Silver each, and pet armor shops do not appear on your map until you own at least one pet.

Common Mistakes

  • Planning around five feeds per day. Three is the real cap, and it is the single biggest error in the launch-week guide crop.
  • Trying to press a Feed button instead of discarding food from inventory.
  • Petting a cat without picking it up first, then concluding cats give no Trust.
  • Dropping food in a crowded street and watching an NPC eat your +35 meal.
  • Running a dog as your active looter with a full inventory, then blaming the game for “losing” drops.
  • Untying a pet for a slot you did not need. The cap is 30 and most players never approach it.

Troubleshooting

Petting stopped giving Trust. You hit the 5-per-day cap for that animal, or the in-game day has not rolled. Time-skip past midnight and it resumes.

Trust went back to zero on an animal I already worked. Trust is bound to the animal’s individual spawn ID, and there is a reported case where an animal despawns and returns as a new ID with reset progress. Save next to an animal before you start a taming session so you can reload into the same one.

“Take in” does not appear at 100. Put the animal down if you are carrying it, then hold the interaction button rather than tapping it.

A pet vanished from my roster right after I registered it. The community workaround with the most repeat reports is to jump into water and submerge, which forces the pet model to reload. [Unverified - reported fix, not a documented one]

Final Take

The pet system is a patience mechanic wearing a collection-mechanic costume. Petting caps at +25 a day, feeding caps at three meals, and the only real accelerators are buying the best food in one Hernand trip, starting at 22:00 so you get two daily resets in one sitting, and picking dogs first because their food pays more than anything a cat will take. If you are here for the auto-loot rather than the collection, that decision has a cost: no filter means a full inventory mid-run, and it is your inventory that pays for it.

For the rest of Pywel’s systems, the open world map guide covers where the regions and fast travel points sit, and the Crimson Desert guide hub collects the rest of the writing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I adopt pets in Crimson Desert?

Take one animal to 100 Trust, then hold the interaction button and choose Take in (put the cat down first if you are carrying it). Trust comes from petting (+5 per pet, 5 pets per in-game day, +25 max) and feeding (3 meals per in-game day, 10 to 35 Trust depending on the food). The daily counters reset at in-game midnight.

Where can I find dogs and cats in Crimson Desert?

The friendly bulldog on the riverbank when Kliff wakes up is the first dog you meet. Hernand has the densest early supply - streets, the Constabulary area, the reward board and the guard station. Pororin Village is the cat cluster. Food for both is sold at the Hernand Grocer and the butchery just south of the inn.

What food gives the most trust points for pets?

Favorite and higher-grade food pays 35 Trust per meal in community tables, and PC Gamer measured 20 Trust from fine meat versus 10 from tough meat on the first feed. Standard food pays 10. Dogs accept meat broadly, cats are reported around 10 per feed for fish, bird meat and milk, and some breed favorites are produce or seafood rather than meat.

How many pets can I adopt in Crimson Desert?

30 registered pets, one summoned at a time. Unsummed pets wait at the Greymane Camp once you get it in Chapter 3. Removing a pet from the roster is permanent.

Can dogs and cats fight in Crimson Desert?

No. Pets do not attack enemies or pull aggro. A summoned dog picks up loot from enemy corpses with no filter, which is why inventory space matters. Pets can be hit in combat, disappear when you mount your horse, and cannot be summoned inside the Abyss region.
