Health (HP)
Health meter
Health meter location on HUD
Your Health caps at 100. It decreases from hostile creatures, environmental hazards, drowning, or starvation. Reaching 0 triggers the reprinting penalty.
How to Restore Health
First Aid Kit for health recovery
Use First Aid Kits or eat a Medical Gel Sac for a small health boost.
Oxygen (O2)
Oxygen meter
Oxygen meter location on HUD
Oxygen is your most important stat while diving. Base O2 cap starts at 45. It drains continuously underwater — running out causes vision fade and drowning.
Oxygen Cap is Upgradeable
Craft an Air Tank to increase capacity. The starting 45 is not enough for deeper expeditions.
How to Restore Oxygen
Surface above water, enter your Lifepod or base, use an Air Bladder, or use Portable Oxygen. Oxygen Tunic releases bubbles while exploring.
Water (Thirst)
Water meter
Water meter location on HUD
Your Water meter caps at 100. Reaching 0 causes immediate death — not gradual HP loss.
How to Restore Water
Restoring water by drinking
Drink Water or Isotonic Water from the Fabricator. In emergencies, eat a raw Water Slug (lowers Food meter).
The Bottom Line: Subnautica 2 respects your intelligence in a way most games don’t. It doesn’t put a glowing arrow on everything you need to interact with. It expects you to explore, experiment, and yes — die a few times. The guides on this site exist because I’ve already done the dying for you. Use them, learn the systems, and then go experience the terror and wonder of this alien ocean for yourself. There’s nothing else quite like it.
Food (Hunger)
Food meter
Food meter location on HUD
Your Food meter caps at 100. Reaching 0 triggers Starvation, which slowly drains Health until you eat.
How to Restore Food
All cooked food options
Eat cooked fish or consume Nutrient Blocks from Supply Crates for large hunger refills.
