YOU OWE ME, HENRY
Bloody weather. It’s got me well and truly stuck, but that’s no matter. The chest is buried, and that’s what counts. Those filthy bums want to split the loot equally! They can go to hell! Now they will guard my gold forever. Once the rain lets up, I’ll make it to Tortuga and hire a new crew. Or buy myself some land—house and servants included. I should also thank the apothecary. He recommended a fine remedy. Very effective. The gold can stay put for now—gives me time to come up with a suitably tear-soaked tale for the Brethren of the Coast. Spaniards attacked us. Or the English. Makes no difference. If only this wind would die down. It howls and bends the palms so fiercely that I start seeing… things. If I hadn’t killed my own men, I might think they were still here. Watching me. Alive.
Boarding battle is listed in the Windrose quests database.
Edward Teach nearly destroyed the Brethren of the Coast during his assault on Tortuga. Their forces are scattered, and Stede Bonnet’s ships—another of Blackbeard’s lieutenants—are hunting down the survivors.

We are the Children of the New Ark. We are the planks in its sides, the sails on its masts, the nails in its ribs. We are scattered souls gathered into one by Divine will. Sinners will rot in the womb of the tainted earth, while the New Ark will sail upon blessed waves. The Head is our steadfast helmsman. As the sea obeys the wind, so we heed His Word. Whoever listens shall be lifted up; whoever disobeys shall be cursed and know torments beyond number—forever suspended between earth and sky, never finding the true course. We renounce the burden of the worldly: only the pure of heart and humble of soul will reach the promised harbor. We believe the End of Days is at hand. Soon the Abyss of Hell will yawn open and swallow this world steeped in sin. We are the chosen, and therefore we shall be saved. We are the Children of the New Ark.
Terrible things are happening in the bay. A week ago a ship dropped anchor off the shore—looked ordinary, but it flew no flag. Strange writing covered its sails, and at sunset Satan’s servants came ashore to call their master. I saw them with my own eyes. They tied two captives to crosses and carved devil’s signs into their bodies. Curse this wind! If it weren’t for it, I’d have gathered my nets and run for Tortuga days ago. Holy Mary, protect me—I’ll quit the bottle, I’ll go back to Ursula. Only let them not see my hut…
I came across pages from the journal of another man who, like me, was shipwrecked and struggled to survive.
The Swamp Ruins hide countless secrets and treasures left behind by an ancient people. I can’t help but wonder what stories these walls hold.
Among the wreckage on the shore I found a pirate’s skeleton. A note lying nearby mentioned a buried chest of gold.
It turns out the artifact is one of Charon’s Obols—relics of an ancient being who ferries souls to the realm of the dead. The traveler I rescued warned that this relic will soon turn me into one of the undead. To avoid such a grim fate, I’ll have to find the remaining Obols.
Monsieur Teach, The crates of powder should already have reached Monsieur Hands’ camp in the Foothills. I am enclosing with this letter a map indicating the most likely route of the vessel carrying the artifact. I ask that you make every effort to avoid unnecessary bloodshed. After all, this is not a warship. The crew is unlikely to offer much resistance in any case. I have fulfilled the terms of our agreement. The next move is yours. François Arnaud
Frightened Pirate’s Journal is listed in the Windrose quests database.
I came across an abandoned Buccaneers’ camp. Their notes suggest pirates attacked, forcing them to defend themselves and hide in the jungle.
I got myself a pretty good ship. But Caribbean waters are too rough to sail without a few good cannons.
After the pirate attack, the sea washed me ashore on a deserted island. If I want to stay alive, I’ll have to set up camp.
Even if this island looks like a little paradise, I won’t last long here. I need to get back to civilization.
At the centre of the flooded platform stands an ancient stone altar. Carved into it is the beginning of a tale about the Itzeltek's priest and his daughter.
... Woke up in cold sweat again. I think what Hands is looking for isn’t slaves, but fresh meat for the altar. So be it. I’m paid to do a job, not to ask questions. We’ll take some prisoners, haul them to the camp near the ruins, then set sail again. Then — repeat, if needed. I should stock up on rum. Can’t fall asleep without a drink.
Henry, you treacherous cabrón! Whom have you pissed off this time? Some madman is chasing my people all over the Caribbean. Half of our caches have been destroyed, and suppliers are refusing to deal with us. We’ve lost dozens of shipments, and we’ll lose plenty more if you don’t resolve this. We can barely hide from Blackbeard’s cutthroats, and now this new mess on top of it. We're going to lay low for a while. I’d advise you do the same, since the bounty for your cunning ass has not been lifted. Sort this shit out, and maybe we can finally share a drink at the tavern again. Marita

Memories of a Ghost is listed in the Windrose quests database.
Dearest Letty, I swear to you, I’ll be back soon. None of the Children of the Ark will ever reach us. I managed to slip away unnoticed and get in touch with one of the Governor’s men. He promised to help us if I tell him everything about the cult’s leader and his dark dealings. We’ll even have money, Letty! Wait for me on Tortuga, my dear. We’ll go to Boston and start a new life. We’ll open a shop and forget this nightmare ever happened. Now then—the captain is calling for me. He wants me to hide in my cabin, because some ship has appeared on the horizon. It must be the Governor’s people. Just a little longer, Letty. I love you. Yours, Michael Hardy
As if the marks on my body weren’t enough, now I seem to be seeing ghosts talking about some kind of Spanish expedition.
The artifact that could save me has fallen into the hands of another of Blackbeard’s lackeys—Israel Hands. I’ll have to go looking for him in the Foothills.
Those deadbeats have grown completely lazy. Once we raise anchor, I’ll have them keep the night watch for a month. They claim they’re scared—say there’s rustling behind the wall that won’t let them sleep…
The pirates are holding plenty of sailors captive. If we free them, they might help us get off this island.
Thomas Richards killed my crew, sank my ship, and threw me into the sea. Time to pay that bastard a visit and settle the score. While I’m at it, I’ll take the artifact back—if I’m lucky, it’ll lift this blight from my body.
Ancient Senkamati ritual daggers, once used in funerals and ceremonies honoring the sacred beasts—companions of the god of death. It is a valuable find. I should collect them all!
Somebody tied a man to the ship’s wheel and left him to die a slow, agonizing death…
Long Ben is worried his tavern will run out of wine. The smugglers are in trouble—too many people gone missing, and too many caches turning up empty.

I’ve heard there’s an old fort in Ashlands, buried under a layer of volcanic ash along with all the inhabitants and their secrets. I should definitely check it out.

Bloody hell. The moment I held the artifact, Hands appeared. May vultures pick his bones. He came on a friendly visit—brought a few bottles of fine wine and fresh game—and lulled me into lowering my guard. By morning, the artifact was gone, and so was Hands. Blackbeard himself will hang me from the yardarm if I don’t deliver that cursed relic. We’ll send a squad to the Foothills. Quietly. …And damn me, the game really was excellent.
